Cici Ahbab

The story of Cici Ahbab:

People around him would mock him with words like Cici Ahbab and ask for money. He squanders all the money in his pocket. The children would take the money they collect and run away. Cici Ahbab was always present at weddings and funerals. Everyone in the towns and villages of Nevsehir knew Cici Ahbab.

Most nights, Cici Ahbab would recite the Qur'an aloud until the morning and with all his might, with the voice echoing from the Uçhisar Castle. No one would be offended by this. Cici Ahbab, who was married to a 35-year-old woman named Ayse from Nevsehir for four years, passed away in 1974. His tomb is in the cemetery of Uchisar. It’s the first stop on the vintage tour in Cappadocia, which fascinates with its natural beauty.

It is known that viticulture in the region dates back to ancient times and started with the Hittites. Grape cultivation in Cappadocia continued in the Phrygian, Persian, and Hellenistic periods. It is even said that the special Dimrit grape, which grows in the lands of Cappadocia, got its name from Demeter, the god of Earth in mythology. The reason why grapes are grown in Cappadocia is that the region receives less rainfall during the year and the soil is fertile. The aroma of the products grown in this land is unique. It is known that the grapes grown here were also used in the palace cuisine during the Ottoman period.
